A hardy oil seed suited to local conditions
Sesame is a drought-tolerant oil seed well suited to the warm, semi-arid conditions found across much of South Sudan. Ubuntu supports sesame production from a fine, firm seedbed and shallow sowing through early weed control. Cutting the crop at the right time, curing it upright and threshing onto clean surfaces helps capture as much seed as possible. Clean, well-handled sesame can be sold as grain or processed into oil and paste.
